CORE VALUES
HEARTS FOR HONDURAS SCHOOL EXISTS TO
inspire generations of Honduran children to transform their families, communities, and country.
EDUCATE
When we educate children, poverty doesn’t stand a chance. Education inspires the next generation.
EMPOWER
We empower Honduran children to own their future. Violence, gangs and drugs won’t have the last word. They will.
EQUIP
Families are the heart of a community. We equip local families to transform their own cities.
WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?
The Hearts for Honduras School is a collaborative effort that is staffed by caring educators and supported by U.S. volunteers. We are committed to using your generous donations toward ending poverty and illiteracy while creating jobs and transforming the Honduran community.
EDUCATION IS THE KEY TO ENDING POVERTY
We exist to educate the poorest Honduran children. For generations, poverty has obliterated any dreams for a different future. Education empowers them to write a new future not only for themselves, but their families and their own children.
Education is more than academics. We provide access to the arts, sciences, and technology. Our health and wellness services provide students access to vital physical, emotional and spiritual care.
LITERACY IS HOPE FOR THE NEXT GENERATION
Hundreds of students have attended our school and many have advanced to higher education. Some of the earliest graduates have completed university and are now professionals contributing to the future success of ‘their’ school, passionate about educating the next generation.
Students who grew up sleeping on dirt floors will provide their children with a bed in a secure home. Once mired in despair, families now hope and dream. After only twenty years with access to education a thriving community has replaced a ghetto.
WE CREATE JOBS FOR OUR GRADUATES.
The Teen Intern Program, initiated in 2018, provides graduates with job opportunities and leadership development on the Hearts for Honduras campus. The HFH graduates chosen as interns become teaching assistants in the classrooms, earn a competitive wage, learn leadership skills and responsibility, and serve as role models as they continue to excel and further their own education.
COMMUNITY TRANSFORMATION IS OUR GOAL.
In Honduras, 1 out of 2 students do not attend high school. The country suffers from massive unemployment, illiteracy, violence, and drug trafficking.
Honduran schools require students to purchase uniforms, school supplies, and textbooks. Many struggling parents must decide between providing food for the family or sending their children to school. We eliminate these barriers, opening the door to education.
THIS IS NOT A U.S. BASED INITIATIVE
It’s a collaborative effort! It all started with local hero Paty Villanueva, a trained educator from Honduras who pulled kids off the streets and taught them how to read and write. A few US residents met and partnered with Paty, and the school began.
Today, North Americans and Hondurans donate their time, talents and finances. Together we share dreams to further educate, empower and equip the children of Honduras.
